Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya East Constituency Hawa Koomson has admitted to firing a gun at the Step to Christ voters’ registration centre in her constituency.

According to the Special Development Initiatives Minister, she carried along a firearm to the centre to protect herself.

‘None of my men had guns on them when we got to the center. I fired the shots myself,’ she said on Adom News.

She said it was a defence mechanism in the absence of her police escort.

Earlier Monday, officials of the Electoral Commission closed down the Step to Christ registration center in Kasoa after ‘armed thugs’ reportedly stormed the premises.

Per eyewitnesses account, the men numbering at least 15 arrived at the centre around 8 am and tried to sack some prospective voters.
