Flooding

Compound and classrooms of Roman Catholic primary and Junior High School at Jamera in the Jaman North district have experienced a severe flood after heavy Downpour.

Speaking to the Assemblymember for Jamera electoral area, Honorable Philip Forkuo, he bemoaned how the students suffer during the rainy season hence the need for government to take immediate attention to deal with the unfortunate situation.

The assembly member attributed the cause of the flood that moves to the environs of the school to the shoddy work and uncompleted construction of the Sampa-Jinjini Road that passes through the Jamera town.

He stated that the contractor during the construction didn't up gutters that will ensure a good drainage system when it rains which always causes flooding anytime there is a heavy downpour.

Moreover, the contractor has for some time now flee from the site.

They have therefore pleaded with the government and the minister of roads and highway to settle the contractor financially so that he can return to the site for continuation of the work.

He finally pleaded with the president and the necessary authorities to instruct the contractor to come on-site to work on the gutters and drainage system in the Jamera Township even if the completion of the road construction cannot materialize because the flooding has displaced about 80 households behind the Jamera Road.

Hon Philip Fokuo, the assembly member, also lamented that the roof of the school building has been ripped off for about three months now therefore, the DCE and other stakeholders must come in to support the Jamera community to reroof the structure.

He said that all his efforts to roof the building have proven futile as no response has come out from the approaches made so far to the Jaman North district assembly.

Some of the pupils of Jamera R/C Junior High School shared their ordeal to Newsman stating that they always go through hardship during the rainy season due to how their school compound gets flooded whenever it rains.

Also, the school building has become a death trap which compels them to sit under trees during classes hours hence affecting their academics because they are forced to go home when they realize climate change that could lead to downpour.
