England coach Gareth Southgate has admitted that Italy will be fresher than his side ahead of Sunday’s Euro 2020 final.

Though Italy’s game went to penalties and extra-time, Southgate admits the fact that his side has a full day less of preparation, is a ‘disadvantage’ for them ahead of Sunday’s encounter.

“It is definitely a bit of a disadvantage but we have to find the best way of dealing with that.

“I think the biggest thing is psychological fatigue. The players are fit and we are very professional.

“We don’t overload the players, we have been conscious of that going back years.

“When they are with us, we can’t improve them physically so we don’t over-train and we keep that freshness.

“We have minimal injuries in our camps, muscular injuries are very rare.’ Gareth echoes.

Despite England’s disadvantage, it seems unlikely that Southgate will make too many changes for Sunday.

Spain were eliminated by the Azzuri on Tuesday in the semi-finals which saw the Italians book their spot in Sunday’s showpiece at Wembley.

England on the other side beat Denmark 24 hours later after the Three Lions were awarded a Penalty which has been labelled as a ‘Controversial One’ by pundits.

Roberto Mancini’s side were second best against the Spaniards for large periods at Wembley and they looked particularly leggy in the second period.

Bukayo Saka is perhaps the most at threat, with Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho pushing for his spot. Mason Mount is another that could drop out and Southgate could opt for Grealish or Phil Foden.
