It was obvious that former Liverpool player, Dejan Lovren was hit when Mohamed Salah was stretched off in the Champions League final in 2017/18; not just him but the entire Liverpool squad against Sergio Ramos for harming their prolific striker.

Liverpool were on top of the game against the Los Blancos until Salah painfully exited. The Reds dynamo was gone as Madrid pressed on to win the trophy by 3-1.

According to Lovren in an interview with an Egyptian Television, he was on revenge for Salah during Croatia’s game against Spain in November 2018.

The center back confessed that Ramos's act was deliberate and so he saw it fit to make him pay for what he did.

“It's possible that I hit him deliberately after he injured Salah," Lovren said to Egyptian television network Sada El Balad.

"Luka Modric tried to reduce the tension between Ramos and me.

"I hit him with my elbow and told him that we were level.

"I respect Ramos as a player and what he does for his team, but on the other hand he behaves in a way that I don't like and he harms players.

"I don't want to make a big story, but I think Ramos injured my friend Salah deliberately, so it was time for him to pay for what he had done."

Croatia were 3-2 winners in that game.

Liverpool played the final in the Champions League the following year and won the trophy by 2-0 against Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs.

Salah was on target from the spot before Divock Origi powered in the second few minutes to full time.

Lovren left Liverpool to sign for Russian side Zenit St Petersburg on a three-year deal for a fee in the region of €12 million (£11m/$14m), bringing to an end his six-year spell at Anfield.

He won the Premier League, Champions League, Super Cup, and Club World cup with the Reds.
