The Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo has described the incidents that marred the election of Alban Bagbin, the speaker of the 8th parliament of the fourth republic of Ghana as unfortunate and disappointing.

The man of God speaking to journalists stated that those happenings were rather unfortunate and disappointing.

"I will say that it was rather unfortunate but thank God it ended well, but the earlier part was not good for us as Ghanaians which was so disappointing, but calm prevailed which paved way for us to have a successful swearing-in of the president," he said.

"I think that, with what has happened in parliament, building consensus will be needed, I know the beginning was rough, but they should put Ghana first and make sure that they dig into the welfare of Ghanaians and not partisan or personal sentiment among others. What was carries out on that day was unpleasant but consensus-building should be encouraged" he added.

On the bit of the military invasion in the house of parliament, the Christian council chairman said it wasn't the best and should be condemned saying "I have already mentioned that it was so disappointing, very disgraceful and very distasteful, a nation which has been touted as the beacon of democracy should not tow such lines" Reverend Paul concluded.

The parliament of Ghana on midnight of 7th January acted rough in their quest to elect the speaker of parliament. The National Democratic Congress(NDC) presented Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin whereas the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) presented the immediate past speaker Right Honourable Mike Ocquaye and as required by law, the selection was subjected to voting.

The NDC's Alban Bagbin polled 138 votes against the Mike Ocquaye's 136 with a spoilt ballot.
