Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) Inaugurates Alumni Association to Foster Development and Collaboration

In a momentous event held today, Friday, 21st July 2023, the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) officially inaugurated its alumni association at the ILGS Accra campus in Ogbojo under the auspices of Prof. Nicholas Awotwi, the Director of ILGS. The establishment of this association marks a significant milestone in the institute's mission to promote effective local governance through education, training, research, consultancy, and advisory services.

ILGS, a renowned public management development and training institution, was established in 2003 under the authority of an Act of Parliament (Act 647). Its primary objective is to enhance the capacity of local governments in Ghana and empower them to govern effectively. However, ILGS's journey began earlier, as it operated as a project commissioned in 1999 by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development (MLGRD).

The newly elected alumni leadership, headed by Fortress Adika as the President and Frank Wilberforce Nii Dua as the General Secretary, expressed their gratitude to the institute's Council and Board of Trustees, Director, Registrar, the Dean of Graduate Studies, teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as past and current students of the Institute. They acknowledged the collective effort that has brought ILGS to its current position of prominence and success.

Furthermore, the alumni leadership made a passionate plea to all members to work assiduously toward the development and betterment of the Institute. They emphasized the importance of collaboration and collective action in fostering a supportive environment for local governance in Ghana. By leveraging the expertise, experiences, and networks of its alumni, ILGS aims to advance its mission and contribute significantly to the development of the nation.

The ILGS alumni association will serve as a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and professional development. It will facilitate continued engagement between ILGS and its graduates, enabling them to contribute actively to the growth and improvement of local governance practices in Ghana. With a shared vision of promoting effective and efficient governance, the alumni association is poised to make a lasting impact on the nation's development agenda.

As ILGS celebrates this milestone, it reaffirms its commitment to providing quality education, research, and consultancy services that empower local governments and contribute to sustainable development. The alumni association stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of ILGS and collective dedication to building a prosperous and welled Ghana.
