Inhabitants at Nweneso no.1 in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region are concerned about the rate of security breaches in the community which is upsetting living among them.

Leaders in the township believe the challenging state of their road is the cause of the wicked act yet its spread towards residents homes is threatening, creating insecurity among dwellers.

The Assemblymember of the Nweneso Electoral Area, Honorable Kwame Atinka says no suspect has been identified yet due to relocation factors as a result of the galamsey dealings.

A house experienced robbery on Monday, June 28, 2021, in the community for the first time activating fear in the hearts of the people that the worst is about to happen and per the words of Honorable Kwame Atinka, security measures at Nweneso no.1 are getting out of hand.

“Robbery has been going on for years now on our roads but for them to attack residents at home is rare,” he told Soireenews.

“This is the first time this is happening. Because of the galamsey issues, we cannot suspect anyone here. We have no knowledge of what is going on here and security has been very poor.

He upbraided the government and the contractor for abandoning the renovation works on the road which has degraded the face of the township which is just 14 miles from the capital of the Ashanti Region. He decided that if the District Chief Executive in his own power could help reshape certain parts of the stretch, it would ease access for drivers to ply safe for the benefit of the people.

Honorable Kwame Atinka, Assemblymember of the Nweneso Electoral Area

“From Ohwimase, Denkyemuoso (towns along the stretch) together with Nweneso no.1 number has a problem with roads. At least the contractor should have filled a section of the stretch to help drivers ply on because, during rainfall, they find it difficult to drive towards the hills. My appeal is for the DCE to try and reorder the roads in our efforts to make the place best.”

Robbers took hostage a pregnant woman being carried on a motorbike to give birth in one of the surrounding towns. Speaking to Madam Abena Bronya, a relative of the hostage who later gave birth in the presence of the robbers on the road, if the government does not intervene before 2024, they will not take part in the elections due to its "absurdity."

“One of my pregnant granddaughters went through torment in the hands of robbers. She had to forcedly give birth when she was taken hostage on her way to deliver. By God’s intervention, she survived but the road situation needs to be addressed. If not, I doubt we will vote again," she said.

Uncompleted Hospital, Nweneso No. 1

The situation of the lack of a hospital at Nweneso no.1 when enquired from the Assemblymember is lacking after a facility put up was halted due to the lack of funds. Its finishing point is not yet and residents are dealing with the trials it presents them. Their recent carriage of patients and pregnant women is through motorcycles to Tabuom or Ofoase which is not appealing although the District Assembly has assured to complete the facility for their usage.

“Patients due to the deplorable nature of the road are put on motor or "aboboyaa" to Ofoase or Tabuom for treatment. It hinders our development.

“The Previous committee and Assembly members had started works and we continued till roofing of the hospital. The project is stuck and there are no sources of income. We have written to the District Assembly and they have told us that their budget for the year has already been done and during the budget review in June and July, they will allocate some funds for roofing and finishing the facility.

The Assemblymember further appealed to the government and DCE “to come to our assistance and work on our major challenge, which is roads.”

A driver of the GPRTU who plies on the road, Kwaku Badu also criticized the government’s decision to award works on the road to the new Patriotic Party Ashanti Regional Chair, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi).

To him, when the contractor started with bridge and gutters, you could see that the job even after completion won’t last due to the shoddy approach.

Uncompleted Bridge

“We suffer as drivers and car owners are refusing to give us their vehicles if it is to ply on this road.

"It’s been tough for us here and if government does not come to our aid, living will be worse. Nweneso is only 14 miles and we shouldn’t be suffering to this extent. We can’t all move to Kumasi to look for white-collar jobs.

Chairman Wontumi is in charge of the contract. Observe the bridge he is constructing and judge for yourself if he is competent. Why should he be awarded a contract? Is it because he is a party chairman?

The Traditional leaders at Nweneso No.1 pleaded to the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to come to their aid.
