I'm too old to do music, they say—Kwaisey Pee

Kwaisey Pee, one of Ghana's prominent Highlife experts, has shared how he almost gave up music after falling out of favor with the general public and having his career stagnate due to the attitudes of industry leaders.

He claimed that despite releasing excellent songs, he began to feel frustrated by the lack of support from Ghanaians, which led him to decide to effectively end his musical career.

Pee was cited as saying, "For the past 13 years, I have been releasing good songs, but they don't get the needed attention; instead, they are met with insults," when asked about his situation by Graphic Showbiz.

I've been putting out fantastic music, but it doesn't get the attention it deserves; instead, it receives criticism. After they were released, I personally sent some of my songs to radio stations, but as of right now, I have not heard any of them played.

"I typically get comments like'stay away from music and give the young ones a chance' and 'I'm too old to do music,' while some just tell me right away they don't like my works," the author said.

"Such remarks make me feel so awful that all I want to do is give up on music," the person said. In fact, I've contemplated quitting music and pursuing other interests on numerous occasions, stated.

Kwaisey Pee answered that he continued to make music despite feeling so discouraged and frustrated because he was passionate about it and because his family and friends would not support him in making the decision.

"I ask family and friends whenever I intend to stop doing music, but they never encourage me. I recall telling a fellow musician that I was over music and wanted to try something else. He came over and spent about two hours persuading me to continue working in the sector. Every time I talk about quitting music, my family never encourages me," he admitted.
