Illegal Brothels, Drinking Bars, Food Joints In New Weija Choice Area Demolished! -Amidst Cries By Sex Workers And Residents
The scores of illegal wooden structures, kiosks, food vending joints, shops and container stores including brothels along the New Weija Choice on the Accra-Kasoa–Winneba-Cape Coast Highway in Weija- Gbawe Municipality in the Greater Accra Region have been demolished by Weija- Gbawe Municipal Assembly.

The scores of illegal wooden structures, kiosks, food vending joints, shops, and container stores including brothels along with the New Weija Choice on the Accra-Kasoa–Winneba-Cape Coast Highway in Weija- Gbawe Municipality in the Greater Accra Region have been demolished by Weija- Gbawe Municipal Assembly.
Some of the structures believed to be brothels used for prostitution were alleged to be rented out to criminals who attack, terrorize and rape unsuspecting visitors and residents along the Accra Kasoa highway at night.
Although the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Mr. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor has confirmed the ordering of the demolition exercise of the area to this reporter he declined to give out the reasons for embarking on such exercise to clear the area.
But, according to information from the Public Relations Department of the Assembly, the decision to demolish the structures has followed a petition from some residents to the Weija District Police Station and copied to the Assembly.
They told Soireenews.com that the situation has generated some insecurity for residents, tourists, drinking fans, and holidaymakers hence the move to clear the unauthorized structures in the area.
They said the petition also touched on how the commercial sex workers were chasing some men mostly in the afternoon and at night to patronage their sex activities which are causing insecurity in the area.
Speaking in an interview with some residents in the area, they thanked the Assembly led by Mr. Kumor for walking the talk to destroy the sex workers' hub in the Choice area of New Weija in Accra.
They revealed the nefarious activities of commercial sex workers and other criminals.
On Monday, June 20, 2022, at around 12:54 PM, the guns weirdly personnel from Ghana Army Force (GAF) and Ghana Police Service were seen protecting security for the task force of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly to use an earth-moving machine to demolish Kiosks, stores, building structures and food joints including the brothels at the location of New Weija, popularly known as Choice.
Some residents appeared to have complied with the eviction notice and had packed out ahead of the exercise.
Within two hours the once vibrant sex market was flattened.
The area closed to West Hills Mall had become a hub for commercial sex workers with more than one thousand five hundred scattered structures used as brothels.
The West Hills Mall is a shopping center located at Dukonah, near Weija along the Accra – Cape Coast Highway in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana
The police officers from Weija District Police Command who were at the grounds of the demolition exercise said the police will continue monitoring the place to ensure the structures are not re-erected.
Meanwhile, the Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly is expected to take over the area with immediate effect.
