AMA, Ministry Of Works And Housing Alert... Red Flag Raised Over Building On Encroached Land At Makola By Amidu- Butcher Family Of Accra
A call has been to the building unit of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Ministry of Works and Housing including all the state-building and housing regulatory agencies to commission full-scale investigations into the ongoing story-building project on the encroached land at Makola enclave in the Greater Accra Region by Amidu-Butcher Family. It
According to the members of the Alawiye family of Accra who raised an alarm bell over the project, the contractor hired by the Amidu-Butcher family of Accra is indiscriminately building the house to block many access roads and ways to some existing building structures of the individuals who are staying in the area without recourse to the National Building Regulations, 1996 (LI 1630).
However, the members of the Alawiye family, have, therefore appealed to the state housing and building regulatory agencies to, as a matter of urgency delve into the engineering aspect of the Amidu-Butcher family of putting up such story building on the encroached land, or the processes involved in the obtaining the requisite permit for the building of the house to safeguard the situation in the area.
Addressing a press conference in Accra over the weekend, the Alawiye family of Accra has warned encroachers (Amidu-Butcher family) to follow the right national building and housing procedures to build a safe and sound facility at Makola and desist from the act or face their wrath.
A member of the Alawiye family, Alhaji Shaibu Alawiye addressed JourJournalist'sst statement that the lion-hearted intrusion of the property, which he believes is being perpetuated by some members of the Amidu-Butcher in Accra, is an affront to a court declaration.
Alhaji Shaibu maintained that, though a court declaration has awarded portions of a property that was willed to them to the Amidu-Butcher family, they have intentionally, without any provocation, decided to intrude on their property.
"We do not seek anything from them because the court has already decided to award that portion of the property to them but they should warn their contractors not to build into our property" An incensed Alhaji Shaibu fumed.
He noted that some members of the Amidu-Butcher family, whom he described as very barbaric in their line of business because of the connections they wield., shielded and urged the contractors to build into their property.
According to Alhaji Shaibu, available information to him suggests that the said property, that caught fire about a year ago is being reconstructed without prior permits from any building authorized institution.
"We have reliable information that they are building without the required and wonder why the authorities are not taking action against them," Alhaji Shaibu quizzed.
He feared further encroachment may force traders occupying his property to vacate because they feel threatened they might be taken over.
