Dr. Samuel Twumasi-Ankrah, President of Heritage Christian College (HCC), a university in Amasaman-Accra has charged graduands to create jobs after obtaining practical skills from the tertiary institutions in the country.

"Apply the practical skills you have acquired to create jobs wherever you may find yourself." he made the claim at the second graduation ceremony held in the school over the weekend.

Heritage Christian College (HCC), a university in Amasaman-Accra held its second graduation ceremony over the weekend.

A total of forty-two graduands received Bachelor's degrees in Business Administration with options in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Human resources, and Business Information Technology Management.

Others received Bachelor of Science degrees in Information Technology and Bachelor of Theology.

Twenty-three (23) graduands who offered courses in Intermediate Certificate in Christian Ministry at the Heritage Bible Institute (HBI) were officially commissioned as ministers of the gospel.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Samuel Twumasi-Ankrah, President of HCC said the university has plans to increase degree programmes in the 2021 academic year.

Dr. Samuel Twumasi-Ankrah declared that the programmes including Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Diploma in Guidance and Counseling, Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, Bachelor of Science in Multimedia Technology, Bachelor of Theology and Community Development, Bachelor of Administration in Accounting, Computing and Supply Chain and Logistics Management were being processed for accreditation.

He revealed that the University is considering rolling out Master's programmes in Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance as well as Human Resource Management.

The HCC President however charged the graduands to lead lives that reflect the values of the school which were imbibed in the course of their training.

He urged them to keep their faith in God, a key pillar upon which HCC was built.

Speaking on the topic: "Academia and Industry Collaborations: Closing the Skills Gap of University Graduates," a former Ambassador to the United Kingdom and former Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Mr. Isaac Osei also urged the graduands to live out the values they had learned from HCC which he said were needed in the development of the country.

He challenged the graduands and the continuing students to sharpen their entrepreneurial skills and apply the practical skills they have acquired wherever they found themselves.

HCC Honours 

The university, through its Centre for Entrepreneurship, Philanthropy and Ethics awarded students who won the 2020 edition of the HCC Start-Up Challenge which encourages students to present business proposals for sponsorship.

 Fairview Feed was awarded GHC30,000 to produce poultry feed while Tils Farms which will produce tilapia fish was awarded GHC20,000.

 Since the university’s start-up challenge began in 2018, a grant of GH¢ 230,000 has been awarded to 42 students to start their own businesses.

The university believes entrepreneurship is the panacea to the graduate unemployment problem in the country.
