Group Angry At GWCL For Disconnecting Water Supply To Five Senior High Schools In Krobo Asuogyaman Enclave
AGGRIEVED group calling itself Eastern Affairs Forum is boiling with anger at the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) for doing unthinkable which has put the lives of thousand students in the various senior schools in the Krobo and Asuogyaman areas in serious danger.

The group couldn't fathom why the GWCL would embarked on a mass disconnection exercise of water supply to some Senior High Schools in the Krobo and Asuogyaman enclave of the Eastern Region without recourse to the lives of the students.
In a statement copied to Soireenews.com in Accra, the group noted that its attention has been drawn to a publication by media house ghanaweb. com of a mass disconnection exercise of water supply to some Senior High Schools in the aforementioned enclave of the Eastern Region.

The statement said the affected schools as reported by the media house are Krobo Girls SHS, Anum Presbyterian SHS, Anum Vocational Training Institute, Boso SHTS as well as the Akro SHTS.
The statement pointed out that the GWCL
accordingly was compelled to undertake
the above exercise following the Bawumia/Akuffo Addo government’s indebtedness and subsequent reluctance to make available any credible payment plan to offset the huge indebtedness.

According to the statement, the situation has become more dire due to the lack of any intervention from the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) which has led  to long queues at the few water sources on some of the affected campuses and in some instances students are compelled to go out of their respective campuses to secure water which of course poses a threat to the security and general well-being of the students.
Following this acute water shortage faced by students as well as Staff in the aforementioned schools, the statement said the teaching and teaching have severely been compromised to the extent that if nothing is done within the shortest possible time, preparations for the WASSCE by the final year students is greatly going to be jeopardized.
The statement stressed that the health of these students especially the females students is another worrying situation to the Eastern Affairs Forum.
"Pockets of information gathered points to situations where Students are sometimes compelled to wake up at 3am, move out of school into the communities in search of water for the pantry and as well for the resident staff. A practice which in our opinion exposes the students to harm.
"Reference to the enumerated challenges, we at the Eastern Affairs Forum wish to plead with the Ghana Water  Company Limited to not be influenced by the ineffectiveness of the Nana Addo/Bawumia regime but consider the well-being of these students and reconnect the valves of water supply to these vulnerable students whiles alternate approaches to compel this lame government to pay the bills are explored," the statement said.
The group led by its Programs Coordinator, Mr  Evans Srenyame urged the Akufo Addo/ Bawumia government to honour the the payments due the Ghana Water Company Limited so they can be effective and efficient.
It stressed that enough of the disregard for the plight of the People of the Eastern Region by this regime. Enough is Enough!!
