Ghanaians have pressurized the Special  Prosecutor (SP),Mr Kissi Agyebeng to, immediately arrest and interrogate Mr Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, the lead partner at Africa Legal Associates, who was cited in illegal mining report released by former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, for interfering in the work of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).
The former Chairman of the defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining in a 37-page document accused government officials of engaging in galamsey or interfering in his work.
In an interview with Soireenews.com, after the arrest of Prof Frimpong Boateng by Mr Kissi over his galamsey report, scores of Ghanaians who spoke on the condition of anonymity stated that they wanted to know if Gabby Asare Ochere-Darko has also been arrested, interrogated, and bailed.
They charged the Office of the Special Prosecutor and Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to look into the matter.
“The content of this report is only affirming what we already know. What the report has done is to bring it to bear the illegalities in our forest reserves. This is why the Ghanaians are calling for a probe, the report has a basis to be investigated”.
They stated that the Special Prosecutor targets to arrest the entire Akufo Addo Interministerial Committee members on illegal Mining comprising Ministers [IMCIM] of the following ministries; Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR), Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Chieftaincy & Religious Affairs, Regional Re-Organisation and Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, Water and Sanitation, Interior, Defense and Information.
They indicated that each of the ten (10) Ministers including some former Ministers was invited by the Special Prosecutor, arrested, interrogated and bailed.*
According to them, the Special Prosecutor announced on national television that Prof. Frimpong-Boateng was not the only target but the entire membership of the Akufo Addo Cabinet Interministerial Committee on illegal Mining.
They mentioned that the Special Prosecutor confirmed that others including officials of the Jubilee House and NPP functionaries involved in Galamsey or named in the controversial IMCIM Galamsey Report as part of the ongoing investigation have already been or are soon to be arrested, interrogated and bailed.
According to them, the Special Prosecutor said that those arrested are in the tens whiles those yet to be arrested are in the hundreds.*
"Ghanaians want the identities of the suspects disclosed as many including Lawyer Ayikoi Otoo believe that it is a diversionary tactics to scapegoat some while shielding others.
"The timing of the arrest of Prof. Frimpong-Boateng by the Special Prosecutor a day after he was sued by Gabby Asare Ochere-Darko, a close friend of the Special Prosecutor and a nephew of Akufo Addo who he named in the IMCIM Galamsey Report is very worrisome added by Lawyer Ayiko Otoo," they noted.
Ghanaians are angry about Akufo Addo's clearing of Akonta Mining doing Galamsey in forest reserves and destruction of rivers and Cocoa farmlands.
Ghanaians are wondering if the NPP's Ashanti Regional Chairman Wuntumi who owns Akonta Mining has been arrested, interrogated, and bailed
Ghanaians expected that the notorious Landguard Clemence Gyato who has publicly claimed the Lands Minister contracted him to keep the Galamsey Excavators at the Adenta Civil Aviation Lands is also arrested, interrogated and bailed.
Ghanaians are resolved to be Citizens in the fight against Galamsey, gold smuggling,  Corruption, money laundering, and land looting, which have become synonymous with the Akufo Addo-Bawumia government's tenure of office.
