Grant Nii Amu Dodoo Bail - Ayikai Doblo Residents Appeal To CJ
Chief Justice, Akwasi Annin Yeboah

Residents, including elders of Ayikai Doblo, a suburb of Accra are appealing to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to impress upon the Chief Justice to help grant bail to the Cats taker of Ayikai Doblo land, Nii Amu Dodoo who was sentenced by an Accra Circuit Court to four years imprisonment.

Consequently, they informed the general public to disregard the widespread media reports to the effect that Mr Dodoo is a landguard, saying he is the lawful caretaker of Ayikai Doblo land in Accra.

Mr Dodoo was jailed for allegedly defrauding the Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Constituency in the Central Region of four plots of land.

Meanwhile, at a press conference organized by residents of Ayikai Doblo,  they indicated that Mr Dodoo was a pillar of support to many people in the community and that his absence is “killing” them.

According to them, Mr Dodoo has been assisting the youth, school children and others in their times of need.

They averred that he had taken the responsibilities of supporting needy but brilliant students of the area.

He has also been footing medical bills for the poor in the community; the more reason why they cannot survive without him.

“We have become vulnerable to problems that we face because we don’t have anybody to help us,” they said.

Although they said they are not against the decision of the Court, they are of the view that grounds on which he was dragged to court were not accurate and that the allegations levelled against him were false.

They said although he sold the said land, conditions surrounding the sale has not been made too clear to the Court leading to the sentence.

They revealed that Mr Dodoo did grant the entire area to prospective developers because he has not received any money from the complainant who was the person who championed the sale of the land to the MP.

According to them, looking at the extent to which Mr Dodoo is supporting the people of the area in his capacity as the caretaker of the community, the elders took a decision to intent to install his chief.

According to them, they believe that the decision to install his chief did not go down well with some people who have plotted his downfall.

In view of that, they indicated, the Principal Kingmaker of Ayikai Doblo Sub-Divisional Stool, Nii Kweifio, on behalf of the leaders of the area granted a Power of Attorney to Mr Dodoo to represent the Akumajen Stool in all matters relating to land transactions in Ayikai Doblo community under Ga Mashie.

A one-page certified document dated November 18, 2013, with signatories of the Stool Secretary of Akumanjen Divisional Council of Ga Traditional Area, Nii Ayikai III, and Mr Decarlo Quainoo, indicated that “Nii Ayikwa III and his elders in Ga Mashie with the consent and concurrence of the chiefs of the Akumanjen Stool have appointed Mr Dodoo as the true and lawful Attorney of Ayikai Doblo Stool land.”

“As part of his duties, he is to do all things whatsoever which in the opinion of my said Attorney shall be expedient to execute for me and on my behalf,” the documents noted.

According to the document, Mr Dodoo is to commence, persecute, defend and answer all actions and other legal proceedings and demands touching on any of the matters in connection with Ayikai Doblo lands.

Residents are of the view that granting him bail will afford him the opportunity to continue with his good works in the community.

They said, Mr Dodoo’s lawyers have appealed against the ruling and the case will be heard on September 15, 2021.

They, therefore, called on President Akufo-Addo to use his good office to grant some form of amnesty to Mr Dodoo who they described as a good man and not a land guard as claimed.

They also appealed to the Chief Justice to take interest in the case on September 15, 2021, and grant the convict bail.
