Some mobile money agents in Techiman have appealed to the government to use the 10% tax imposed on cash-out services to provide them with security.

According to them, although they find paying the tax bizarre since it's a government's directive, they have no option but to follow it while waiting for further directives from the government.

They revealed that the taxation took effect on July 1, 2021, of which they got a message that from the authorities that there will be a stakeholder meeting with the government that will determine if the monies will be returned to them or will go into the national treasury.

"I received a message that they are negotiating with the government and by September, we will know the outcome of it, whether the money will be returned to us or not". One agent said.

They said, they are very much exposed to criminals due to the nature of their work and since the government is "overtaxing" them, then the government should in turn provide them with some sort of insurance cover and security.
