According to him, Ghana as a country needs stiffer punishment for people who impregnate teenagers to deter others.

The Municipal Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in Assin Fosu, Mr Ebenezer Nana Amofa Appiah has suggested that the high prevalence rate of teenage pregnancy in the Municipality calls for stiffer punishment against perpetrators to deter others.

Speaking in an interview with Central Regional Soireenews Correspondent, Abusuapanyin Kojo Ahinful, Mr Amofa stressed that the future of every nation rides on human resource and since children form the base, it is imperative to put appropriate measures such as strict laws in place to ensure their survival and development.

His remark comes after a report from the Assin Fosu Municipal Heath Directorate indicating that teenage pregnancy is rising high in the municipality. 

He implied that the survey conducted by his outfit about the increasing rate of teenage pregnancy suggested a lack of requisite parental care and control and the girls easily get influenced by adult men to engage in sex.

Mr Ebenezer Amofa Appiah who appeared unhappy with the news advised parents not to see their children getting pregnant in fashion but must work hard to prevent it.
