A statistical survey conducted by Sorienews Correspondent reveals that the Bono Region has a record of over four hundred and seventy-six (476) people being affected by mental health illness each year in the region.

A statistical survey conducted by Sorienews Correspondent reveals that the Bono Region has a record of over four hundred and seventy-six (476) people being affected by mental health illness each year in the region.

  According to Dr. Josephs Yere, a Health practitioner in charge of mental health and Bono Regional Coordinator of Mental Health said that his department in the region has tried to count all mentally ill vagrants which now stand at 476. 

Dr. Joseph Yere again said that, when you come to Bono Region, the majority of mentally ill vagrants are females who have been left on the streets with their problems. 

He said the Regional Health Directorate has written to the Regional Coordinating Council to support the treatment and reintegration of the vagrants into the society.

According to him, the are so many things leading to the causes of the mental condition in the region namely, economic hardship, unemployment, depression, alcoholism, drug abuse, divorce, and marriage issues as well as other social factors has been the result of this mental health illness in the Bono region.
 

Dr. Joseph Yere emphasized that his department of mental health is facing a lot of financial challenges making it difficult to meet their targets to get the patients clear from the streets. 

He, therefore, appealed to the government to introduce the mental health bill so that the mental health department would be relieved of the challenges facing them.
