Ghana Card Registration Fiasco: Ghanaian Citizen Narrates How NlA Officers At Bogoso Maltreated Him
NIA Boss
A known citizen in Prestea in the Prestea Hunni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region, Mr Dominic Nyame has narrated several frustrations he has got through in the hands of the workers at the Bogoso office of the National Identification Authority (NIA) on Tuesday November 29, 2022 to get the officers to update the correct name on his national identity card.
"I was frustrated by the officers of the Bogoso office of the NlA for almost six months to have the workers of the NIA to make correction of a typographical error on my surname name, Nyame which the NlA officers wrongly spelt as Mnyme on the already registered national identification card.
He pointed out that the officers left their mandatory jobs behind and were watching football match of the this year's world cup tournament, making the prospective customers who were in the queue in the office stranded.

"Because the workers are concentrating watching the match of the tournament when l approached them, they told me that l should go and bring my school leaving certificates as well as the birthday certificate before they can update my correct name on the national identification card."
"Having been frustrated of the whole issue, l told the worker that l don't have school leaving certificates, and that they told me that l should go and bring other personal documents of me for which l presented to them of my cards of the Driver License, Voter Identification Card including the Ghana card itself, and one officer told me that they cannot do anything about it.
"Following this development l told the NIA officer that why is it that they are doing this to me since last two weeks Friday 2022 that l have been following this card. So l went to Prestea Hunni-Valley Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) office located at Bogoso but unfortunately l could not meet the MCE.
"l got the Deputy Prestea Hunni-Valley Municipal Coordinator and then l explained the matter to him and when the Deputy Prestea Hunni-Valley Municipal Coordinator came to the Bogoso office of NIA, an NIA officer wanted to brag and l insulted him. After l insulted he threatened me that he is going to report me to the police officers but l told him that l don't care about he reporting to the police.
"I told that was the officers of the NIA at Bogoso office were being expected me to go on my knees to beg them to do the correct one as if it was a previllege being extended to me and not their obligation. May I know if they are not being paid for the work," Mr Nyame recounted.
Mr Nyame recounted that on Tuesday July 19, 2022 he stormed the NIA's Bogoso office, requesting the correction to be done on his Ghana card about his name, Nyame which was wrongly spelt Myame but the workers were reported to have thrown him [Mr. Nyame from their office.]
Mr. Nyame who is an opinion leader of Prestea stated that when he identified the problem, he moved to the Bogoso office of the NIA and was surprised to be told by the workers that the update has finished and that unless he travels far away from Prestea to Accra.
He expressed worry over the maltreatment meted to him by the workers in the NIA's Bogoso office.
He quoted workers of NIA telling him that "We are telling you that if there is any decision to do update on your Ghana card the instructions should come from the headquarters of NIA in Accra.
He stated that the word Nyame, during the registration, the card registration officers made an mistake of spelling it Myame instead of Nyame and that he did not identify the mistake.
He said the mistake was noticed on his card in the wake when the state authority has issued the directive to Ghanaians to link their mobile number to Ghana card before they can use it for any transaction.
He pointed out that one his relatives in the oversea called "me that he would be returning to Ghana in August and that he is going to send money to my MTN Mono wallet for him to withdraw to do some project for him."
According to Mr. Nyame, his friend called via telephone call to inform him that he tried sending the money into "my MTN Mono wallet but the transaction was not going through, before l check on my Ghana card to see that my name Nyame is spelt Myame."
"So it was the reason l went to the NIA office in Bogoso but the officers told me that l should go to Accra head office of NIA before the update can done on my card.
"Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced to the general public that from the July 21, 2022 everything is going from the system, so if l don't get it done l would sue the NIA," Mr Nyame threatened.
Mr Nyame pointed out that many holders of the Ghana card have encountered this problem on the  cards but they were afraid to talk about it for fear of victimisation.
He indicated that the staff of the NIA in Bogoso are not be fair to him because looking at the distance from Prestea to Accra before he can have the update done on his card, the situation has affected him to use the card to do any money transaction.
"So l want to ask that what are the purpose of the establishing the NIA office at Bogoso," he rethorically asked.
He threatened to sue the NIA in court because the problem had made his money transaction has come stand still.
