Gbewaa Interchange: Residents of Tamale raises concerns of absence of footbridge, children invasion

A week ago the Tamale interchange also known as the Naa Gbewaa Interchange was open to vehicular traffic by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Tamale during a grand Commissioning ceremony.

The purpose of the construction of the Interchange is to ease vehicular congestion and improve traveling time in the northern regional capital.

Putting a sports light on the interchange after its Commissioning, certain development were observed when our Northern Regional correspondent paid a visit to the edifice last night and this morning.

School children who abandoned classes at the time of the visit were sported with bicycles crisscrossing on the interchange, others were as well seen using the edifice as a walkway

In an interaction with some motorists using the road to find out whether the  Interchange is serving its intended purpose or not, they largely agreed that traveling time has improved greatly as anticipated and there is a free flow of traffic in the Tamale metropolis.

A Road Safety Activist in Tamale, Mr. Amidu Abdul Rahim said the Naa Gbewaa Interchange has among other things beautified the city of Tamale, but some precautions need to be taken into consideration to curb avoidable accidents.

Mr. Amidu indicated that the Synohydro Cooperation ought to have considered a Zebra-cross and a footbridge at the close ends of the interchange for pedestrians especially children to use in crossing.

Some School children who spoke to the news team said, using the interchange is interesting and assists them to reach their destinations faster as compared to the main road.

This according to them is the reason why they prefer the interchange.

A Few residents who also shared their views reiterated the need to commend the Akufo Addo government for constructing the first interchange in the Northern.

They appealed to authorities to however delegate a few Security personnel to check how the edifice is being used.

Largely most of the concerns raised were the lack of a footbridge, Zebra crossing, and how pedestrians especially children play on the highways.
