THE GA SOUTH Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region has failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM) after two voting attempts, supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The contestants, Honourable Winfred Ayetey and Honourable Adonu Peter could not secure the two-thirds majority votes required to become a winner.
The Municipal Assembly has scheduled another voting to be held in the next ten days.
However, the Ga-South Municipal Assembly in accordance with the Local Government Act has sworn in 19 newly-elected Assembly members and 9 government appointees in total of 28.
In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Nyarni congratulated all the Assembly members on their victory.
He reminded them that they jointly have a mandate in their collective quest to develop the Ga South Municipality and have a huge responsibility on their hands as far as the work of the Assembly is concerned.
Speaking to the media, after the the Assembly Members failed to elect the Presiding Member, he explained the Assembly had a successful inauguration and Induction Ceremony but failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM) after two rounds of voting for the first time in the Ga- South Municipality.
He stated, the need for the Assembly Members to bear in mind that lack of a Presiding Member (PM) would affect the activities of the Assembly.
The MCE asked them to bury their political differences and work with unity of purpose to elect a presiding as soon as possible to enable the assembly to discharge its mandate.
He urged the Assembly members to prioritize the development agenda of the Municipality.
