Former United captain tips Red Devils to challenge for Premier League title
McTominay celebrate his goal against Leeds United

Former Manchester United player, Michael Keane says the Red Devils can challenge Liverpool for the Premier League this season as they begin to take their chances at home.

United have pushed into the top three, five points behind the Champions with a game in hand after their 6-2 victory against Leeds United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Mc Tominay scored two quick goals under three minutes before Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof made further additions for United to lead by four in the first half.

Daniel James paid his manager’s faith with a fifth before Bruno completed his brace for United's sixth in the 70-minute through a spot-kick. Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas scored the visitors two consolation goals in both halves.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side were earlier criticized by pundits for their slow start of the season, and the former captain of the Red Devils captain did not rule himself out yet believes a change of mentality for the current crop of players could lead to the positive unexpected.

He still considered Liverpool as title favourites but claims his former side's season would be more than successful if they finish as runners up.

"I think over the last few months they've been heavily criticized, particularly over the home record. I've been quite critical of the back four, the goalkeeper, questioning where this team is going, but the name of this game is proving people wrong," Keane told Sky Sports.

"Maybe, just maybe, this group of players can do that."

"They've been winning games, and that's all you can do. United are in a great position considering how slow they were out of the blocks. If United can get their house in order at home, there's no reason why United can't stay up there.

"I think Liverpool are still the best, but there's no reason why United should be fancying their chances in terms of pushing Liverpool."

The Red Devils must excel against Leicester City at the King Power on Saturday to preserve their spot, as Spurs, Everton and Southampton are not far from their reach.

The Foxes were 2-0 winners against Tottenham Hotspurs at home, having earlier been defeated by Everton at the King Power earlier.
