Justice Abdulai said that nothing can be held against the families if they fail to assist the court because criminal cases are between the state and the culprit.

Families of the nine victims in the Saboba boat disaster, are praying the government and the court to be lenient with the headmaster in handling the case.

According to the families the death of the students was not orchestrated by the headmaster, Emmanuel Chinjal. They say it was an accident and that the Mr, Chinjal should not be harshly treated for an accident.

Speaking in an interview, legal practitioner Justice Abdulai stated that the families' plea will not in any way affect legal proceedings. He expalins that the family members could serve as witnesses in the case by providing information on victims.

The Ghana Education Service has since interdicted the headmaster for breaching its code of conduct. 

The Tamale Magistrate Court on Monday remanded the headmaster into prison custody to reappear on Monday, November 29.
