Essikandu Manhene Charges Ghana's Security Agencies To Stop Chasing Weed Smokers Instead.

Mr. Jonathan Osei Owusu Executive Director of POS Foundation seems to look at other alternatives to deal with drug users rather than sending them into prisons.

The Paramount Chief of Essikadu Traditional Area in the Sekondi-Takoradi of the Western Region, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, has urged the law enforcement agencies to stop chasing wee smokers instead, should go after the pushers who sell drugs to the users.

According to him, if the law enforcement agencies want to address the issue relating to the use of illegal substances then, they should rather focus on the pushers who are the main traffickers.

Nana Kobina Nketsia made these remarks at a workshop on the Narcotics Control Commission ACT 2020 ( ACT 1019).

The workshop was organized by the Perfection of Sentiments Foundation (POS Foundation) in partnership with the international drug policy Consortium (IDPC) and the West Africa drug policy network (WADPN) Ghana chapter with funding from the Open Society Foundation to find solutions to cramp down wee smoking among the youth.

The workshop was on the team: "Understanding the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020 (Act 2019); The Role of Law Enforcement and Prosecutors in health, Rights-based best practices to handling people who use drugs in the Implementation of the Act."

"There is a lot of people building and we don't know their source of income and we don't ask but chase the youth who buy one roll and smoke" Nana noted.

Lawyer Akriasi Yaw Sarpong former Narcotics Control Commission Boss also said when dealing with Narcotics, we should think outside the box and know the other uses of the substance but not, if arresting someone with the substance, processing him for court solve the situation but must look at from the different angle to make good use of the narcotics substance.
