Liverpool mates celebrate Trent's goal

Liverpool are back in the top four after a scintillating 3-1 performance against Tottenham Hotspurs in London.

Firmino, Trent and Mane were on the scoresheet on Thursday night as they recorded their first victory in the new year and also ended their goal drought in the Premier League in five matches.

Sadio Mane missed the first huge chance in the 2-minute when Alexander-Arnold floated a ball forward for the Senegalese, who puts the ball into Salah's path with a bit of a scruffy control.

The latter then played his team-mate back through and drove away from Aurier, but he sent the effort well wide of the target.

Son responded with a goal a minute later but VAR ruled It out as offside. The Reds kept linking up play in what seems like an embrace of rhythm after a nervy start of the year but kept struggling at the final third.

Son kept posing threats for Liverpool anytime he is played through on ball. Matip put in a superb defending in the 20-minute after Dier’s wicked long pass forward, picked out the run of the Korean. He drove into the area but the Cameroonian stopped him further and made a clearance.

The Reds kept pushing for a goal but Hugo Lloris made two good saves to deny Mane and Salah in the final minutes.

Roberto Firmino gave the visitors the lead in extra time to end Liverpool’s goal drought. Henderson's lovely floated pass picked out Mane on the right. He controlled before sending the ball across the face of goal, and Dier’s hesitation allowed Firmino to poke home from point-blank range.

The Reds doubled their advantage when Arnold Alexander scored from a distance three minutes after the restart.

Mane sprinted past Doherty before initiating a strike but Lloris was there to push it away. However, Alexander-Arnold was lurking and burst forward before powering forward and slotting home into the far corner.

Hojbjerg pulled one back with a thunderous effort into the back of the net a minute later.

Salah scored Liverpool’s third but VAR intervened and disallowed the goal following a handball from Firmino in the buildup.

Mane in the 65-minute tracked Alexander Arnold’s sensational pass into the area for the Reds third to put the game to bed.

The win means Liverpool have now beaten Tottenham in the top-flight on all seven days of the week, becoming just the third side to have done so after Everton and West Ham.
