Roberto Firmino’s thumping header helped Liverpool extend their unbeaten home run to 66 matches after 2-1 win against Spurs at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah found the breakthrough for Liverpool after numerous knocking at the door of Spurs.

Jones drove purposefully into the Spurs box and managed to offload the ball to Mohamed Salah before being dispossessed. Salah hit a shot first time and it took a wicked deflection off Alderweireld, leaving Lloris with no chance as the ball looped into the top corner.

Spurs responded quickly in seven minutes through Son. It was the usual through ball released by Lo Celso as the South Korean raced through on Alisson and does the Liverpool goalkeeper with his eyes, wrapping a shot in at the near post.

VAR took a look at a marginal offside, but the red lines came out in Spurs' favour. The Reds kept pushing for their second and registered seven shots on target in the first half, already the most by any team in the opening 45 minutes of a Premier League game this season.

Harry Kane in the second half intercepted a loose pass way out on the left, and after spotting Alisson off his line, he tried to lob the Brazilian with an audacious chip that has the goalkeeper backpedalling worried before he tipped it behind for a corner.

Spurs threatened the Reds for the second time in the half when Bergwijn was put in play by Kane. He had Alisson to beat and he does that. The Dutchman opened up his body with a curled shot to the far corner, but he failed to beat the frame of the goal as it cannoned back off the post and Fabinho hacked it behind for a corner.

The Reds warmed into the game and begun distracting the Spurs defence – Mane hit the bar after Lloris tip and Salah went close but denied.

When everyone thought it was game over, Firmino stepped up and directed Robertson’s corner past Lloris. The Brazilian was free and found space away from Alderweireld as Kane failed to attack it too.

The Reds move past Spurs to top the table with 28 points with Mourinho’s men on 25.
