David Silva scored one goal and set up the other in his penultimate home match as Manchester City beat a spirited AFC Bournemouth side 2-1.

Silva, who will leave Man City at the end of the season, gave the hosts a sixth-minute lead with a superb free-kick.

AFC Bournemouth responded well as they sought a repeat of Sunday's comeback win against Leicester City.

Joshua King shot just wide, Junior Stanislas's free-kick was tipped on to the post by Ederson and Dominic Solanke's close-range strike was deflected over the bar by Nicolas Otamendi.

But City doubled their lead before half-time with their second shot on target, with Silva finding Gabriel Jesus, who wriggled free in the box and clinically found the bottom corner.

A King goal was disallowed for offside before David Brooks halved the deficit in the 88th minute. The visitors threw everything at their hosts during six minutes of stoppage time but they could find an equaliser.

Second-placed Man City's third straight win takes them to 72 points. AFC Bournemouth remain 18th, three points behind West Ham United and Watford, who each have a match in hand and meet on Friday.
