Due to pressure, I almost bleached my skin—Adomaa

Adomaa, a Ghanaian singer, admitted in a heartfelt interview that she almost bleached her skin because she felt inferior about it.

She admitted that because of these experiences, she frequently felt the need to bleach her complexion in order to fit into the standards set by "the new world order," which does not accept people with dark skin.

The singer acknowledged that despite having a secure upbringing, she started to experience insecurities when attending boarding school in Nigeria where she was routinely made fun of for having dark complexion.

She said: “I used to hear statements like Oh you are so dark, oh my God the sun in Ghana, does it burn people. It made me feel very very insecure, I am not proud of it but there are times I actually attempted bleaching just to fit in”.

"I don't believe it is normal for any human being to live a life in which everyone participates in everything they do. The world of celebrities is not normal; everyone has vulnerable moments and ordinary lives. There are some things you want to keep private, some things you want to share with your family, some things you want to share with your friends, and there are layers to everything. However, when you are in the spotlight, you have no privacy, and this is not normal.

Adomaa, real name Onyuiyechukwu Adomaa Serwaa Adjeman, gained some recognition on the music scene in 2015 with a cover of Stonebwoy's Baafira.

She was hailed as the next big thing at the time, and there was a lot of enthusiasm surrounding her abilities, but the hype was unwarranted, so she took a long vacation.

Despite this, she has returned and is determined to "rule the world."

Positive songs by Adomaa include Healing Blossoms, Real Time Love, and Breaking Me Down. People will once again have faith in her abilities if she becomes Adomaa.
