Dormaa West DCE Warns  Cocoa Sprayers Ahead of Cocoa Spraying Exercise

The District Chief Executive (DCE), of Dormaa West District Assembly in the Bono Region, Mr. Francis Kwadwo Oppong has warned those who would be engaged in this year’s mass cocoa spraying exercise program not to adopt the "whom you know" attitude but should give equal treatment to every cocoa farmer.

According to him, there should not be complaints in the aftermath of the exercise.  He stressed that this year's national mass cocoa spraying exercise program must be done by the gangs in a transparent manner and devoid of any news of discrimination.
"I don't want to hear any complaints of stolen chemicals or logistics and also, that farmers without cocoa farms have benefited from the exercise," he warned.
Mr. Oppong issued the warning when he was addressing the Dormaa West District cocoa mass sprayers at a meeting organized by the Districts’ Cocoa Health Extension Division at Nkrankwanta.
The meeting was attended by the Dormaa West District Cocoa Officer, Mr. David Afriyie, the Coordinator of Cocoa Pest and Disease Control (CODAPEC), Mr. Samuel Kambigs, and the Coordinator of Productivity Enhancement, Mr. Eric Owusu Poku.
The meeting was aimed at discussing some pressing issues with the District cocoa mass sprayers before the commencement of the exercise.
He thanked the sprayers (gangs) for the work they had done to spray cocoa farms in the Dormaa West District which is the largest cocoa growing community in the Bono Region, saying the impact of the mass spraying program on cocoa production in the district is very positive.
He entreated the gangs to be transparent, professional, respect the rights of the cocoa farmers and perform their work devoid of extortion of money from the beneficiary cocoa farmers.
He pledged his support for the Dormaa West District cocoa mass spraying to ensure effective monitoring and supervision of the exercise.
The DCE stressed that the government is poised to ensure cocoa production was increased to attract more foreign support to boost the industry, adding that farmers’ motivation and other assistance are being pursued.
