Digne's three game ban reduced to one
Lucas Digne is shown a straight red card by referee Kevin Friend after a foul on Kyle Walker-Peters

Everton defender, Lucas Digne’s three-match ban has been downgraded to one-game, talkSPORTS confirm.

The decision was made by an independent disciplinary panel on Tuesday.

Digne was sent off in the Toffee’s game with Southampton after a challenge on Kyle Walker-Peters during their 2-0 loss to end their unbeaten run on Sunday.

Carlo Ancelotti spoke that the decision was a ‘joke’ and accused the referee of taking the decision based on the Merseyside derby accusations which tagged his players as ‘violent’ on the field of play yet promised to counter.

"The red card was a joke, it was not intentional, for sure it was not violent,” Ancelotti said on Sky Sports.

“Maybe it was a yellow. Maybe all this talk all week against [Jordan] Pickford, against Richarlison, affected the decision and if so it's not right, it's not fair. We will appeal, for sure.

"I told the players winter is coming and we will have to react."

The player will miss the Toffee’s game with Newcastle and will be available in their game against Manchester United on November 7.

A Football Association statement read: “An independent Regulatory Commission has upheld a claim of clearly excessive punishment in relation to Everton FC's Lucas Digne.

“The defender was sent off for serious foul play during a Premier League fixture against Southampton FC on Sunday 25 October 2020 and would have been suspended for three fixtures.

“However, the independent Regulatory Commission has withdrawn his original suspension and applied a one-match suspension instead.”
