The historic award ceremony which came off last Tuesday,November 14,2023 at the No.1 Oxford Street after the first day of the Accra Reparation Conference saw in attendance several dignitaries.

DAF Honours Dr. Julius Garvey with Bridge Builders Awards

The Diaspora African Forum last Tuesday, 14th November 2023 decorates Dr.Julius Garvey,son of the late Pan Africanist, Marcus Garvey with the Bridge Builders Award.

The historic award ceremony which came off last Tuesday,November 14,2023 at the No.1 Oxford Street after the first day of the Accra Reparation Conference saw in attendance several dignitaries.

Presenting the prestigious award,H.E Ambassador Dr. Erieka Bennett, Founder and Head of Mission, Diaspora African Forum -DAF who was joined by two DAF Board Members;Rabbi Kohain Halevi and Dr. Desta Desta to grace the ocasion.

Also,Dr. Julius Gravey was assisted by a delegation to receceive the prestigous award. 

Dr. Julius Gravey is not only the youngest of the two sons of the late Marcus Garvey who were raised in Jamaica but a surgeon and medical professor to have graduated from Wolmer's Trust High School for Boys in Kingston in 1950.

Dr. Julius Gravey further earned his B.S. degree from McGill University in Montréal, Canada in 1957.

He further acquired his M.D., C.M. degree from McGill University Faculty of Medicine in 1961.

Garvey,being a certified fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons,of the American College of Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons, and the American College of Chest Physicians, as well as a diplomat of the Board of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, he has earned  himself that honor for his hard work.

Garvey is also a member of the American Board of Surgery, the American Academy of Wound Management, and the American College of Phlebology. 

The Bridge Builders Award is an award that recognizes, honors and appreciates key personalities and individuals who have contributed in bridging the gap between Africa and the African Diaspora.

DAF,for the past eight years, has awarded iconic personalities around the world including Xernona Clayton- Iconic American Civil Rights Leader,H.E. Joyce Banda – Former President of Malawi, H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf – Former President of Liberia, Mr. Louis Gossett Jr. – American Actor, Rev Jesse Jackson – American Political Activist, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo – President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Mia Mottley – Prime Minister of Barbados, H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Zuma - Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth, and People with Disabilities of South Africa and H.E. Dr. Bamanga Tukur – Grand Patron and President Emeritus,African Business Roundtable. 

The rest of awardees were H.E. Professor Benedict Oramah- President and Chairman, African Export Import (AFREXIM) Bank,H.E. Wamkele Mene- Secretary General, African Continental Free Trade Area AfCFTA),Dr. John Sampson -Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine among others.

H.E Ambassador Dr. Erieka Bennett in a statement observed, ‘’We are very honored to recognize the tremendous contributions of iconic Dr. Julius Garvey over the decades in health and Pan-Africanism’’.
