The District Chief Executive for Dormaa East, Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang has said Ghana could have been worse off in the fight against Covid-19 if not for the swift intervention by the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu.

On the current brouhaha over the Sputnik V Vaccine, the DCE explained that President Akufo Addo, through the Health Minister, worked in the best interest of all Ghanaians thereby their swift intervention.

He said looking at the escalating cases of the pandemic in the country, there was the need for the engagement of the third party since all African countries were rushing for the vaccine.

On the issue of how the purchasing agreement was not taken to Parliament, Mr Agyemang stressed that “issues on health when critical cannot wait for protocols since we are not in normal times”, adding Ghanaians should even thank the Minister for his smart initiative.

He however disclosed that a larger part of the 20,000 jabs was used to vaccinate the enumerators of the 2020 Population and Housing Census.

Meanwhile, the youth organizer of the National Democratic Congress NDC Vincent Antwi Agyei has said “for the fact that the Minister refused to go for both Cabinet and Parliamentary approvals, he cannot be pardoned since he broke Article 181 of the 1992 constitution and the Public Procurement Act”.
