Three (3) suspects who were arrested in connection with the riot that took place at Ntonso in the Kwabre East Municipal Assembly of the Ashanti Region have been remanded into prison custody.

The three were Nantoma Ishaw, 20, Kwadwo Manu, 23, and Ernest Boakye, 22.

Appearing before the Mamponteng District Court on Wednesday, 7th July 2021, Prosecution officer Police Inspector Abdul Rahman Zakaria revealed that on Monday 5th July 2021 the suspects were involved in a riot that ensued between some youth in the area. 

He continued by saying the three suspects destroyed many properties worth millions of cedis.

Magistrate court judge, Thomas Boadi Soyori who presided over the case asked the trio to be remanded into prison custody for the next three weeks. The suspects are therefore expected to appear before the court on the 28th day of July 2021.

The three who stood trial on Wednesday were part of the five(5) suspects who were initiated arrested. Two were however released after it was discovered that they had no hand in the said riot.

A clash between Zongo and Ashanti youth in the area led to the destruction of many properties whilst six (6) others were severely injured. A joint military and police have since been dispatched into the town to ensure calmness.

Residents are expected to sleep at 8:00 pm and wake at 6:00 am until further notice.
