Court fines trader 50 penalty units for insanitary condition

He recounted that on the 5th of March, 2022 about 9:35 am, the Environmental Health Officers of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly(ASHMA), on Operation Clean Your Frontage(OCYF) found that the accused person's drain was chocked with refuse and sand. 

Court fines trader 50 penalty units  for insanitary condition

An Ashaiman Circuit court has fined a trader 50 penalty units for unsanitary conditions contrary to the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly Bye-laws (Protection of Roads) bye-laws 2017.

Joseph Attah pleaded guilty with an explanation. 

The accused person was subsequently fined by the court 50 penalty units amounting to GHS 600.00 and in default, serve a jail term of 30 days in hard labor

Prosecuting:the Prosecutor, Katey George said the accused person who is a trader lives at Bukom along the Ashaiman road, within the Greater Accra Region.

He recounted that on the 5th of March, 2022 about 9:35 am, the Environmental Health Officers of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly(ASHMA), on Operation Clean Your Frontage(OCYF) found that the accused person's drain was chocked with refuse and sand. 

He said a Health Education(HE) was given and a constructive notice was issued to the accused to desilt the drain, collect and dispose of the refuse immediately from the road and report to the office the following day.

But he said on the 23rd of March 2022, follow-ups were made by the officers that revealed that the accused had disobeyed the instruction of the officers.

He indicated that the accused was later served with a summons to appear before this honorable court.
