Construct our roads or we halt your operations - Newmont Ghana told

Some youth at Ahafo Kenyasi No.1 in the Asutifi North district of the Ahafo region have threatened a total halt of activities of a mining giant Newmont Ghana Limited.

In a recent engagement with Chiefs of Kenyasi and Ntortroso,  in the Asutifi North district of the Ahafo Region, they revealed that it could be impossible restraining the youth from halting mining operations over stalled road projects in the mining town.

They said, the bad and dusty nature of the roads which connect to other districts and towns, has led to the loss of lives and affected the livelihoods of people as businesses fold up.

Speaking to the Ankobeahene of Ahafo Kenya's No.1 Nana Boakye Boateng indicated that, the delay in the resumption of the contractor on the 11.5km roads has resulted in many agitations and planned demonstrations by the youths.

He continued that, the authority have managed to talk to the youth to reverse a planned halting of the mine operations with a promise to continue engaging the Newmount Ghana to construct the roads.

“how long can we ask the youth to exercise patience once the mine is not ready to operate fully on the roads the Ankobeahene quizzed?”.

Meanwhile, the residents have threatened to stop Newmont Ghana Limited from operating in the community if they fail to construct the roads with immediate effect.

The level of dust being created by vehicles especially in this community is unbearable hence we can no more resist the youth from demonstrating Nana Added.
