Communications Ministry Launches National Security Awareness Month 2021

The Ministry of Communications and Digitization has officially launched the National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) under the theme, "Ghana's Cybersecurity Act 2020, its implications and the role of stakeholders."

The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said the launch which took place on October 1, 2021, will help improve awareness of the Cyber Security Act among key stakeholders and the Ghanaian public at large.

According to her Government, as a cybersecurity enabler, they will continue to make the necessary efforts including relevant budgetary allocations to support activities of the National Cybersecurity.

On the issue of sim card registration, Hon Ursula Owusu said there is a need for her outfit to reduce incidents of mobile device-related crimes. 

The Ablekuma West member of parliament seized the opportunity to encourage Ghanaians to get their sim card registered within the 6-month duration given by the Communications Ministry because all unregistered sim cards will be deactivated.

On his part, Mr Joe Anokye, Director General, National Communications Authority has pledged his outfit will support the newly established National Cybersecurity Authority. 

According to him, the sim card registration exercise will subsequently complement the efforts of cybersecurity stakeholders in fighting cyber-related threats in crimes.

Mr thanked the Minister of Communications, National Identification Authority, Ghana Immigration Service, Register General Department and mobile services operators for their collective efforts towards the sim card registration.
