The Chief of Chiraa, Barima Mintah Afari II who doubles as the Benkumhene of Dormaa Traditional Council has called on all Ghanaians to rally behind President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo in fixing the country.

He made this call when Nana Addo as part of his two-day working visit to the Bono Region paid a courtesy call on him at his Palace. In the last few months, Ghanaian youth have taken to social media to demand accountability, good governance, and better living conditions from the government.

The FixTheCountry advocacy, which began in May, garnered huge support since campaigners, largely the youth, started highlighting some of the inadequacies in the country. The campaigners finally hit the streets of Accra on August 4, 2021, clad in red, gold, green and black outfits, held placards with inscriptions such as, “Stop the cathedral and use the proceeds to build hospitals, schools, roads and comfortable houses for the Police”, “Ghanaians deserve better.”

But speaking on the issue, Barima Mintah Afari II said it was impossible for the president alone to fix the country hence require all hands to be on deck. The chief wondered how Ghana can be fixed when citizens continue to engage in nation-wrecking activities such as galamsey, evasion of taxes among others.

He however called on all and sundry to contribute their individual quota to making Ghana a better place. Barima Mintah Afari II said the decision of the president to build the district hospital at Odumase, Sunyani West capital would not be challenged but appealed for a proper health facility and other developmental projects since Chiraa is the gateway from the Northern part of Ghana to the Bono region.

The Dormaa Benkumhene also urged the president to help the Chiraa Senior High School put up an administration block and provide a school bus to facilitate the smooth running of the institution. He again added his voice to that of the chiefs of Sunyani for upgrading the Regional hospital into a teaching hospital and a medical school at the University of Energy and Natural Resources.

The president Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of Chiraa for their continued support for his government especially during 2020 general elections. He then promised Chiraa SHS a brand new bus and assured residents of the development.

On his part, the Health Minister, Agyemang Manu said the plea for a proper health facility at Chiraa would be considered as consultations are ongoing.

The president was accompanied by the regional hospital, Justina Owusu Banahen, Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, Sunyani West MP and Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, various heads of institutions and other party bigwigs.
