Character  Assassination In Politics Must  Stop Now In Ghana! -Murtala Mohammed Declares
Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central Constituency in the Northern Region,  Mr.Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, has called on losers of parliamentary contest to join hands with the winner to secure seats for the party rather than sabotaging their works.
The MP bemoaned the current political environment where people who lost their ambition to be elected into political position ended up of developing diabolic tactics or schemes to destroy personal reputation of their contender after the race instead of supporting the winner to excel in his or her political leadership position.
He also bemoaned the sheer disrespect for political leaders or authority and general indiscipline in the name of freedom of expression, adding that the country democracy doesn’t give room for internal fighting in same political party and character assassination.
To give backing to the stand taking, the MP stressed that it is high time for the losing candidate in the political contest to rally support for the winning candidate after contest rather than engaging in the practice of verbal attacks, sabotage, insult, propaganda, machination, character assay, disrespect and backbiting of the winner after the political race.
"The issue in regard to the situation when one lost in race to be elected into the political position and he or her may find other means or ways to sabotage the winning candidate in our political race must stop in our body politics. Because it is posing a grave threat to our democratic dispensation. In this regard these machinations must stop now," Mr Mohamed emphasized.
He noted that; " When we you lost internal election in the parliamentary primaries, donot abandon your party or your contender who wins the position, just congratulate him or her in good faith and go ahead to rally support for him or her to win the national parliamentary election. And one day your term would come to be because it is only God that makes you a leader."
The MP of Tamale Central who said he was the victim of political assassination and sabotage gave this forgoing advise when he was speaking on the Pan African Television Morning show segment on Friday September 2, 2022 in the discussion of the topic dubbed " Kpando Constituency: Potential Next Hohoe.?'
The topic which has become a current trending issue has come to light when there were predictions that if care was not taken the skirt and blouse voting in Hohoe in the 2020 general elections would be repeated itself in Kpando in the 2024 general elections.
However, during the discussion Mr Mohamed  flown on the intended skirt and blouse voting in Kpando and called on supporters and members of the NDC in the area to smoke peace pipe.
According to Mohammed who doubles as the Political activist, he believes that the losers in the contest of the parliamentary primaries in Kpando should not work against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Mrs. Della Adwoa Sowah to work effectively.
Mr Mohamed stressed that :"We need to understand that the constituents determined who represent them in the parliament."
He described the attack and accusation leveled against the Member of Parliament for Kpando Constituency in the Volta Region, Honorable Della Adwoa Sowah, as political character assassination, propaganda and sabotage, saying that such attitudes must stop now.
He stressed that "when you go for parliamentary primaries and your candidates lost, please you need to exercise patience and that they could be other opportunity that may come to you."
He narrated the difficult situations for which he has gone through to become the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nanton Constituency.
He pointed out that although he lost the Nanton parliamentary seat, today l worked assiduously to proceed to become the MP for Temale Central Constituency on the ticket of the NDC."
He stated that he expected that those who are contesting Kpando parliamentary primaries with Honourable Sowah and lost to her should be calmed.
"This is because their term would surely come but they should not used any other means and ways to destroy the reputation of Honourable Sowah just because of the position," Mr Mohamed noted.
He added that "when l went into the NDC Parliamentary race in 2006 many people don't know. We are none who contested the NDC parliamentary primaries with the former MP of Temale Central, Inusah Abdulai Bistav Fuseini and we lost, being the youngest contender, l am the only person who congratulate him and hanged him. I followed him to his house and the other seven contestants, some of them angrily left the venue of the election. I followed Inusah Abdulai Bistav Fuseini in his campaign activities and he won the Temale Central parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC.
"Now in the year 2008, l contested Honounable Inusah Abdulai Bistav Fuseini again and these time we were three and l was marginally defeated. But now l have become the MP for Tamale Central so this is time the God has chosen for him. Because when l lost to Honounable Inusah Abdulai Bistav Fuseini l never showed anger and never worked against the NDC.
"We must work to do way with these selfishness and uncontrollably ego that someone has won and that l must fight that person syndrome in our body politics. Asked yourselves from your conscience, that if l won the parliamentary primaries and the person who lost to you and wanted to fight you how would you have felt.
"Let us always allow the democratic principles to work. Donot impose people on the constituents. When you have election and have the leadership of the party who preferred one candidate to the other, l don't think that it is augur well for our democratic development," Mr Mohamed further stressed.
