Celebration of A 30-Year Journey In Ghana: MTN Is Ineffective And Useless— Ghanaian Subscribers Express Frustration With NCA And The Ministry of Communications And Digitalisation
Subscribers reported that over the past few months, they have been unable to make phone calls reliably or conduct mobile-enabled business transactions, despite regularly purchasing airtime and mobile data bundles.
Thousands of Ghanaian subscribers have publicly expressed strong outrage toward the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and the National Communications Authority (NCA) for remaining indifferent while Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) continues to deliver poor telecommunications services.

According to them, they are deeply disappointed in both the Minister for Communications, Honourable Samuel Nartey George, and the National Communications Authority (NCA) for failing to implement measures to sanction MTN Ghana Limited over its substandard service delivery, despite numerous complaints formally submitted to these regulatory bodies and public officials.
Subscribers reported that over the past few months, they have been unable to make phone calls reliably or conduct mobile-enabled business transactions, despite regularly purchasing airtime and mobile data bundles.
Customers across parts of the Volta, Central, Eastern, and Oti Regions noted that from Friday through Tuesday, October 6, 2026, they experienced severe disruptions trying to make phone calls or send messages via WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. This occurred even as the telecom operator celebrated its 30th anniversary of operations in Ghana.
Aggrieved users argued that the government should not permit MTN Ghana to commemorate its three decades of operations while failing to provide quality network services.
They added that MTN’s leadership should be embarrassed to broadcast anniversary messages across 276 administrative districts after failing to uphold service quality commitments.
"We were even told that employees at MTN Ghana’s headquarters were dissatisfied because they also experienced connectivity issues within their own offices.
This failure is a disgrace to both the company and the country, as commercial operations have been severely disrupted by MTN's unreliable services," some subscribers stated.
Frustrated consumers described the network as ineffective and useless, emphasizing that celebrations of a 30-year milestone exist merely on paper rather than reflecting real improvements on the ground.
Subscribers in communities across the Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Bono East, Bono, Savanna, and Ashanti Regions voiced similar grievances regarding their ongoing struggle to make clear calls and execute daily business operations.
Many noted that when complaints regarding continuous interruptions were lodged with management, the company consistently blamed unresolved technical faults.
Consequently, affected users lamented that their livelihoods and businesses have suffered because of an inability to communicate effectively.
Some warned they are preparing to stage street protests to demand accountability and fair service delivery.
Subscribers have urged the government to hold MTN Ghana accountable: "How can the government allow MTN to provide poor-quality network services to Ghanaians when regulatory frameworks require the company to deliver reliable standards to its consumers?"they asked.
