Nigerian singer, Burna Boy has finally broken his streak of disappointing outcomes at award ceremonies by winning the Best African Music Artist at the 2024 iHeart Radio Music Awards in the United States.

The prestigious event, aired live on FOX and hosted by rapper Ludacris, saw another Nigerian artist, Rema, clinching the Best Collaboration of the Year for his song 'Calm Down' featuring Selena Gomez.

Among the notable winners were American pop star Beyoncé, who received the iHeart Innovator Award, and Cher, who was honored with the iHeart Icon Award.

Taylor Swift emerged as the most awarded artist of the night, taking home six awards including Artist of the Year, Pop Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year, Best Lyrics, TikTok Bop of the Year, and Favorite Tour Style.

With their wins, Burna Boy and Rema now join Wizkid and Tems as the only Nigerian artists to have won iHeart Radio Music Awards.

Prior to this breakthrough, Burna Boy had faced several disappointments, including missing out on nominations at the 2023 BET Hip-hop Awards, the 2024 Grammys, and the 2024 NAACP Image Awards. Additionally, he was unsuccessful in securing the Best International Artist of the Year award at the 2024 Brit Awards.
