The Police officers with the Bibiani District Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old electrician residing at Bibiani Hwenapoli in the Western North Region, Sumaila Amidu for allegedly raping an 18-year-old Senior High School (SHS ) form one student at the mission house of Twelve Apostles New Jerusalem Church at Bibiani Hwenapoli.

The suspect has been arraigned before the Bibiani District Court and remanded into police custody for two weeks by Bibiani District Court presided by His Lordship, Mr Peter Donoa, to reappear before the court on September 13, 2021. His plea was not taken by the court.

The complainant, Bashiru Awuni is a Farmer and the father of the victim residing at Attakrom, a suburb of Bibiani.

The victim also resides at Bibiani Hwenapoli with the Head Pastor of Twelve Apostles New Jerusalem Church at Bibiani Hwenapoli, Osofo Sefa.

On July 24, 2021, around 3:35 a.m. when the victim was deeply asleep she felt that someone was having sexual intercourse with her.

She further explained that she woke up and realised it was a man she could identify but does not know his name and the suspect threatened to stab her with a knife if she makes any noise.

Though the victim struggled with the suspect, he, however, managed to achieve his ambition for the first time.

The complainant proceeded to inform the people around about the said incident and they began to manhunt the suspect but he was nowhere to be found. They then made an official complaint to the Bibiani District Police Command the next day.

On 26 August 2021, the suspect once again came back to the mission house for unknown reasons on the said day in the hours around 2:00 a.m.

The suspect was seen at the same compound of the church trying to remove the security bulb of the mission house but was spotted by some church members who managed to grab him from behind and raised an alarm which caused other church members to come to the scene.

On that very day, the victim did not sleep in the room she went to sleep at her father's house so she was called that night to come and identify the suspect if he is the one who raped her last time.

The suspect was then identified by the victim as Sumaila Amidu.

Upon further search, a kitchen knife and a pair of scissors were found on him.

Sumaila was apprehended and sent to the Bibiani Police Command.

Upon further investigation by the police, he was arraigned before court and has been remanded two weeks by Bibiani District Court presided by his lordship Peter Donoa to reappear to the court on 13th September 2021.
