Manchester United leads the race to sign Ben Chilwell from Leicester City in the summer.

The left-back is strongly admired by Frank Lampard for some time and speculations disclosed that he is one of the top summer targets for the Blues.

The Daily Mirror reports that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could sacrifice ‘struggling’ Luke Shaw for Chilwell as talks seem to have advanced between both parties.

Leicester is reported to be interested in a £60m for the 20-year old and the decision of finalizing a deal could be decided if Manchester United qualify for the Champions League.

"There's quite a lot of planning going on," the Norwegian said. 'When do we start the league that is obviously determined by how far we go in Europe, you can't really decide on the training program.

"There are so many small decisions, and transfers are out of our hands as well. If the team is going well, what do we need? What don't we need?

"That's the way we're working and you've got to plan for different scenarios – uncertainty of dates, how much holiday, what will next season look like? It's a little bit up in the air.

"I don't think it's like dramatic decisions. I don't think the club would panic or go crazy with plans that we've already talked about for years to come.

"You do have to have a long-term plan but short-term some decisions will be easier to make if you get in the Champions League."

The Red Devils have their European destiny in their hands after losses for Chelsea and Leicester has boosted their chances.

Chilwell is likely to leave the King Power if Brendan Rodgers's side fails to qualify for Champions League football.

The Foxes were heavily beaten on Sunday by relegation-threatened Bournemouth by 4-1 at the Vitality.

They are fourth with 59 points but could be overtaken if Manchester United beat Southampton on Monday night.
