Asunafo South District Chief Executive join hands to plant 3,000 trees under Green Ghana project.

The District Chief Executive Officer for Asunafo South District in the AhafoRegion, Honourable Abuse Poku Frank, today joined hands with the District Forest Service Division, the District Assembly Staff, and Kukuom Agric Senior High School Authorities to launch this year's Green Ghana Project in the District which saw over 3,000 trees planted today in the District.

The Green Ghana initiative championed by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Forestry Commission is aimed at planting over 20 million trees across the country to preserve and protect the country’s forest reserve.

Honorable Abuse Poku revealed that the Asunafo South District took stock of over 3,500 seedlings to be planted in Schools and the District forest reserves as part of measures to restore depleting forests in Asunafo South.

According to the United Nations report under the Sustainable Development Goals among other things estimated that by 2050, more than half of the world’s population will live in water-stressed regions.

Given this, Honourable Abuse Poku Frank cautioned that “If we do not protect our water bodies, it will be difficult for us to get water in future and this I believe is part of the reasons why the President initiated this project”.

He further eulogized the President for the project, which he believes will deal with climate change as a result of depletion and damage to the forest.

He, therefore, called on the citizens in the area to partner with the Forestry Commission to help protect the trees planted today in the District.
