The United Progressive Party (UPP) parliamentary candidate for Asokwa constituency, Hajia Fuseina Mahammudu has tendered her resignation letter to the party executives and will contest in the upcoming elections as an independent candidate.

Asked why she prefers to stand autonomous, she kept her reasons to self and disclosed that the choice was made based on her dissatisfaction at certain factors concerning the party.

“There are two things I have noticed about UPP which extinguished my interest,” Hajia Fuseina said.

“I am no more part of the party and would prefer to go independent. I want the entire Asokwa constituency to still see me as a woman capable of moving the constituency forward despite the change so they should not lose hope in me. The things which led to my resignation in the UPP are personal and would rather not broadcast them," she added.

Hajia Fuseina addressed that road infrastructures are major areas affecting the Asokwa Municipal and she is determined to do anything possible to represent the people in Ghana’s parliament and help resolve their challenges.

She also assured to provide job opportunities for the redundant youth in the constituency by collaborating with companies through the guidance of the government and also encourage education in the Municipal by securing scholarships for brilliant but needy students.

“Asokwa is worse as I speak with the greater affecting roads. Drivers do not want to ply from McKenzie onwards due to the deprived state of roads. The place is dangerous at night and it poses danger for passengers hence my decision to contest in the upcoming elections to battle for the welfare of my people.

There are also no developmental projects. Every bigger company in Ashanti Region is located here at Asokwa yet inhabitants are without jobs. I promise that when I am chosen to represent Asokwa in Ghana’s parliament, I will partner these companies to help our youth gain employment. I will also seek scholarships for brilliant but needy students.

She mauled the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei for her lack of service to constituents, bashing her of doing nothing for the progress of Asokwa. She finally assured that if the constituency will indeed see fruition, she is the ideal person to make it work for Asokwa.

“We have seen nothing from the incumbent member of parliament. Majority of people do not know the personality they have voted for. She has done nothing here in her eight years as an MP, therefore, I am entreating the people of Asokwa to change power and vote for Hajia Fuseina Muhamadu to rescue them from their hard times.
