As Spilled Waters Recede: Ibrahim Mahama Cuts Sod To Construct New Roads,Gutters And Drains At Mepe
THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE Officer (CEO) of Engineers and Planners, and Dzata Cement, Mr Ibrahim Mahama on Saturday October 28, 2023 cut sod for work to begin on new roads and gutters in Mepe township of the North Tongu District in the Volta Region after the Akosombo and Akuse Dams spilled waters starting receding.

On Saturday October 28, 2023, the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on behalf of the junior brother of former President John Dramani Mahama performed the sod cutting with the support of traditional prayers from the traditional rulers of Mepe for special works to immediately commence in Mepe.

These special works include dredging the stagnant contaminated flood waters, creating pathways for the flood waters to be rechanneled, and constructing new roads in the Mepe RC-St.Kizito enclave which were terribly damaged by the floods.
However, the chiefs and people of Mepe lauded Mr Ibrahim Mahama for his continuous efforts to support the people of Mepe, following the devastation caused by the Volta River Authority (VRA)-induced flood disaster.

Thousands of residents wished a long life for the famous Ghanaian tycoon, saying that Mr Mahama is most certainly a man who keeps his words and promises.

Ibrahim Mahama's contribution to the flood relief efforts according to the residents, is a shining example of how individuals and companies can play a pivotal role in rebuilding communities and providing much-needed assistance during times of crisis.

It is expected that his efforts will inspire others to join in the collective endeavour to help Ghana's flood-affected communities.
Their commendation comes to light when Mr. Mahama has sent in his engineers, workers, and equipment in fulfilment of a pledge he made to the chiefs and the people of the Mepe Traditional Council.

These special works are being carried out by Mr. Ibrahim Mahama’s company, Engineers and Planners at absolutely no financial cost to the constituency.
The Mepe Traditional Council, the constituents — particularly our over 12,000 displaced brothers and sisters, will not stop in praying for more blessings upon your life.

Meanwhile, the Mepe Development Association (MDC) has  appealed to all individuals, corporate bodies, groups, Ministries,Departments and Agencies, international agencies, churches, political parties and representatives and all interested parties who intend visiting Mepe to donate  to support the displaced victims to contact the MDA before engaging directly with the people.
In a strong statement signed issued by Chairman of the MDA, Mr Kojo Mawulenu Fabian, the Association stressed that the
media houses, particularly, those who want to do Outdoor Broadcasting (OB) in Mepe, must also give prior notice to the MDA for purposes of coordination and alignment.

"We call on all  to desist from directly giving donations to the displaced persons at the make-shift safe havens, especially at St. Kizito, without the notice and involvement of the MDA, the traditional council or its appointed representatives.
"The MDA has formed a Central Committee, which draws representation from all key stakeholders in Mepe, clothed with the mandate to  coordinate the distribution of relief items to the seven(7) make-shift safe havens and other displaced victims at various locations.

"We also have a Flood Disaster Relief Centre where  all donations are received for onward distribution," the statement noted.
The statement further made a special appeal to all those raising funds to support the flood victims in the name of Mepe to contact the MDA to discuss modalities for the judicious use of the funds raised to attend to priority needs.

"Kindly cooperate with us in these difficult moments to ensure order, transparency, accountability and balance in the distribution of the relief items. Thank you for your  understanding, cooperation and show of solidarity to our cause," the statement concluded.
