As Ghana Highways renovates bridges, motorists are trapped on the Accra-Tema highway

The Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) is racing to repair bridges on the Accra-Tema highway, leaving motorists and passengers trapped.

The Authority stated that the bridges failed structural integrity tests and that their poor condition renders them a national emergency, necessitating their renovation.

The Ghana Highways Authority has promised that the repairs will be finished within a week.

However, the development has caused havoc on the stretch, with some drivers opting to utilize the shoulders of the road while others opting to do illegal u-turns to avoid the traffic.

Some drivers and commuters who expressed their dissatisfaction on Adom FM's morning show claimed that the remodeling work was done at an inopportune time.

The majority of those who had spent hours stuck in traffic resented the productive hours lost as a result of what they called the Highway Authority's indiscretion.

Even though they acknowledge the need for the maintenance job, they claim no measures have been taken to alleviate their burden.

However, Stephen Pambiin Jalulah, the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, apologized for the inconvenience in an interview.

He stated that the repairs are being completed in 24 hours to reduce traffic congestion.

"I can tell you that the bridge repairs will be completed by Sunday," Mr. Jalulah said, pleading with motorists to bear with him.
