The Ashanti Regional Police Command has cuffed more than 50 suspected robbers within Kumasi and is therefore calling on any person or group of persons who want to assist can call the various District Commanders in that regard or call the Police emergency numbers 0299202240, 0299207770, 18555 and 191.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has revealed that an arrest of suspected armed robbers believed to be behind series of residential robberies within the Kumasi Metropolis has been made.

Five persons are in the grip of the Police namely, Kwabena Agyei alias ‘gunster’ aged 22years, ‘Muniru Issaka’ alias ‘Tanguani’ aged 18years, Twumasi Desmond, 18yrs, Moro Talata aged 18yrs and Mohammed Mutalala.

Two foreign pistols with forty-two (42) rounds of 9mm ammunition, five (5) ‘40’ auto rounds of ammunition, seven (7) smartphones, two (2) motorbikes, thirty-two (32) key holders, one (1) black hood, rings, necklaces, twelve (12) wristwatches sixteen (16) keypad mobile phones and two (2) speakers were found on them during the arrest which was assisted by The Asuoyeboah Police on July 8, 2021.

In a release by the Regional Police Command, signed by the Assistant Superintendent of Police and Public Relation Officer, Godwin Ahianyo, “ the Police Command is continuing with its Community assisted based swoops to rid the Metropolis off criminals and their activities.

“Such swoops have been conducted simultaneously at some Police Districts within the region.

“The Asokwa District Police Command conducted swoops at the following criminal hideouts, Kaase, Asafo and Wood Village and arrested eight (8) persons who are between the ages of eighteen (18) and thirty-four (34) years. They have been detained in custody for screening and profiling.”

The suspects have been detained in custody for screening and profiling.

The statement further added that the Trede District Police Command also conducted swoops at Pekyi, Mpatasie, Nkoranza and Brofuyedru and arrested six (6) suspects. They have also been detained in Police custody to assist in investigation.

“The Airport District Police Command also conducted swoops at Plaza Hotel area, Aboabo Post office and the Aboabo bus stop and arrested a number of suspected criminals.

“The Bohyen District Police Command also embarked on intelligent led swoops and arrested twelve (12) suspects with dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

“The Ashanti Central District Police Command as part of measures to curb criminal activities within their area of responsibility (AOR) also embarked on similar swoops at Sokoban, Adum and Adiebeba and also managed to arrest ten (10) suspects. They have all been detained or further investigation.

“The Foase District Police Command as well conducted their swoops at Atwima Foase, Twedie, Yabe, Trabuom, Adwumase, Chechebon and Afrancho and arrested some suspects for various offences. All these intelligent led swoops are Community assisted swoops, which is yielding positive results.”

The Command is therefore urging other Community leaders or members who know the various criminal hideouts within their area to emulate these good examples mentioned above, in order to help curb the criminal activities within the Metropolis and the Region at large.
