An Egyptian tycoon has been imprisoned for abusing orphan girls.

For his involvement in human trafficking and the indecent assault of minor girls at an orphanage he founded, an Egyptian court sentenced a media tycoon with deep ties to the government to three years in prison.

Mohamed al-Amin, the owner of several powerful media outlets, was detained earlier this year when a humanitarian organization called Missing Children made claims of sexual abuse at the orphanage public.

According to the public prosecutor, he took advantage of his power and the girls' fragility.

Amin has rejected the charges and will have the opportunity to appeal his sentence.
