The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Honourable Mavis Hawa Koomson has inspected the ongoing dredging of the Okrudu River at Kasoa in the central region.

The inspection afforded the MP the opportunity to get first-hand information and observing for herself the progress of the drainage projects being undertaken by her.

The dredging is covering over 20kilometers of the Okrudu River which virtually flows through the principal areas of the Constituency.

Honourable Hawa Koomson indicated that the construction and improvement of the drainage system is part of her strategy in ensuring that the Constituency is flood-free during the rainy season.

The Member of Parliament further noted that she is guided by the Sustainable Development Goal 6 which calls for the need to provide good sanitation to all inhabitants without any discrimination.

The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development said she is hopeful that the project when completed could help solve flooding of some major areas of Kasoa whenever it rains since the Okrudu River which is the major causer of the flood will flow easily

Honourable Hawa Koomson promised that she will continue to empty all the drains in her constituency because she was of the view that if the drains are not rid of solid waste such as plastics, access to easy flow of water would be difficult, which will eventually become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
