A friend is stabbed to death by an illegal miner

Fisticuffs between two illegal miners at an Indian hemp (wee) base in Akyem Achiase have resulted in the death of one of them, while the other is on the run.

The suspect, Kofi Kwakye alias Tompoo, 25, and the deceased, Kwame Ofori, 35, were both unlicensed miners in the Tarkwa area, according to Superintendent Patrick Gblorkpor of the Achiase District Police.

Last weekend, the two miners, who were good friends, came to their hometown of Achiase to enjoy their loot, he claimed.

Last Sunday, the two buddies went to a little base at Achiase to smoke the drug, according to Supt Gblorkpor. He claimed that at about 9 p.m., the two buddies had a dispute that escalated into a brawl in which Ofori viciously assaulted Kwakye.

Stabbing

According to Supt Gblorkpor, Kwakye returned to the base after the altercation, armed himself with a sharp knife, and stabbed Ofori in the neck, chest, and abdomen, killing him instantly, before fleeing.

He claimed that when police arrived at the location after receiving information about the incident, they discovered Ofori dead in a pool of blood with several wounds on his body.

The body of Ofori was deposited in the mortuary of the Oda Government Hospital for autopsy and preservation, according to the district commander, while the police investigated the incident.

Meanwhile, the police and the youth of Achiase have been on the lookout for Kwakye, who has eluded capture.
