Emmanuel Timmy Donkor

The National Trainer for the 2021 Population and Housing Census who doubles as lecturer at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Dr Emmanuel Timmy Donkor has called on the general public to involve themselves in the upcoming exercise in order to enhance development in the country

Speaking on Ark in the Morning monitored by Soiree News, he said in order for the government to have proper planning, accurate data about the number of people and houses in the country are needed.

He said aside from the year 2000, Ghana has never conducted the census of both population and houses together.

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has strongly defended the population and housing census, insisting it is needed to aid in the recovery and development of the economy and future planning

The Legal Authority for conducting this year's Population and Housing Census is the Statistical Service Act 2019 (Act 1003), a law that empowers the Government Statistician to conduct statistical surveys and any census in Ghana.

Ghana has conducted five post-independent population censuses in 1960, 1970, 1984, 2000 and 2010 with the last two consisting of both a population census and a housing census making the 2021 PHC the third Population and Housing Census to be conducted in Ghana.

2021 Population and Housing Census activities to begin 3rd week in June which is 27th.

Dr Lydia Sapomaa Asante who is also National Trainer 2021 Population and Housing Census explained how the process will be done.
